China Brazil soybean weeds rules are easing now. Consequently, trade between the countries resumes gradually. China has decided to relax requirements for weed seeds in imported soybeans. This applies specifically to shipments from Brazil. Major trading companies reported supply disruptions earlier. Furthermore, they mentioned temporary export suspensions due to new inspections by the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture.
China Brazil Soybean Weeds Policy Changes
A document from the Secretariat of Agricultural Control (SDA) notes important developments. The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture issued this document. It states that during a meeting with Chinese authorities, officials acknowledged a key reality. Specifically, “it is impossible to guarantee the absolute absence of weed seeds in soybeans due to the specific nature of production.”
As a result, the Chinese side agreed to modify requirements. They confirmed that “the zero-tolerance criterion for weeds will not apply to shipments of soybeans from Brazil intended for domestic processing.” The acceptable level of weed content remains undefined. Moreover, both nations will negotiate this bilaterally.
Delegation Visit and Protocol Development
A delegation from the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture is visiting China. They aim to resolve the issue quickly. Additionally, they propose creating a special sanitary protocol for soybean trade. Minister Carlos Favaro emphasized the importance of developing clear regulations. Furthermore, these rules must match the characteristics of the product and its intended use.
Updated Certification Requirements
The SDA document also states new certification standards. Officials may certify vessels even if laboratory reports show weed seeds. However, other requirements must be met. Specifically, inspectors must find no treated seeds and no live insects. The official weed tolerance level will come at a later date.
