Kazakhstan Flaxseed Exports Surge 2.4-Fold in 2025/26

Kazakhstan’s flaxseed exports for September-January 2025/26 were 2.4 times higher than the same period last year and 21% higher than the total export volume for the entire previous marketing year, reaching 634,400 tons, according to APK News, citing data from the Kazakhstan Grain Union.

The two main buyers of Kazakhstan’s flaxseed – Belgium (28% of total exports) and China (41%) – accounted for 69% of total exports in the first five months of the current marketing year.

Compared to the same period last marketing year, flaxseed shipments to other countries also increased:

  • Afghanistan – 60,600 tons (2-fold);
  • China – 260,400 tons (2.3-fold);
  • Pakistan – 4,800 tons (+2%);
  • Uzbekistan – 9,100 tons (+18%);
  • Tajikistan – 5.2 thousand tons (1.8 times).

According to the Bureau of National Statistics, flax imports from Russia to the Republic amounted to 17.2 thousand tons, while according to Russian data, they amounted to 33 thousand tons.

According to analysts from ProZerno, flaxseed exports from Russia for the same period amounted to 770.8 thousand tons from September to January. The overall forecast for flax exports from Russia in 2025/26 is 1.3 million tons (+24% year-on-year).

Flax yields in Russia have shown the best dynamics in the last two years, increasing by more than 25% compared to the long-term average. Flax accounts for 9.3% of total oilseed acreage.

As previously calculated by OleoScope analysts, oil production doubled after the introduction of flax export duties.
