The grain harvest in Russia will amount to around 130 million tons in 2024, 83 million tons of which will be wheat. This new harvest forecast was presented by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev at the “Golden Autumn 2024” exhibition.
“The gross grain harvest will be about 130 million tons, of which 83 million tons will be wheat,” Interfax reports Patrushev as saying.
The previous official forecast was 132 million tons, including 84 million tons of wheat.
“Taking into account the high technological efficiency of our agricultural producers at the end of the year, we expect a good harvest that will fully satisfy the domestic market and maintain a high export potential for both raw materials and processed products,” he said.
The Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that 122 million tons of grain had been harvested so far. “This means that Russia’s food security is fully guaranteed and there is already good export potential,” he said.
Referring to the preliminary results of the industry’s work in 2024, the Deputy Prime Minister said that Russian farmers faced unprecedentedly difficult weather conditions this year. “In the spring, some regions suffered from returning frosts, in the summer from drought, and during the harvest from heavy rains,” he said.
Now Siberian farmers are completing the harvest in difficult climatic conditions. In addition, winter sowing is continuing at a pace not lagging behind that of last year. Today, the area under cultivation is more than 13 million hectares.
Patrushev also said that the first five-year cycle of the State Program for Comprehensive Rural Development will be completed in 2024. Over the past period, more than 5,000 communal and social infrastructure facilities have been created or expanded in Russia’s rural areas. Since the start of the state program, over 185,000 families have received housing. In total, the state program will cover 14 million people by the end of the year.
