Sunflower oil prices on the global market are experiencing significant downward pressure. This trend reflects broader shifts in the vegetable oil sector. Furthermore, increased export activity from major producing countries is reshaping trade flows. Analysts are closely monitoring these developments.
According to Oil World, sunflower oil prices on the global market are declining. Moreover, this decline comes under pressure from active exports from Argentina. Additionally, the prospect of high global sunflower seed production this season contributes to the bearish trend.
Sunflower Oil Prices: Argentina’s Record Export Growth
In March, Argentina exported 197,000 tonnes of sunflower oil. Meanwhile, exports in March 2025 reached 119,000 tonnes. Of this volume, 154,000 tonnes were exported to India. Furthermore, India received 47,000 tonnes in March 2025.
Thus, total exports since the beginning of the year reached a record 432,000 tonnes. Moreover, this figure is almost double the result for January-March 2025. During that period, exports totaled 238,000 tonnes. Argentina’s export volumes are expected to remain significantly above last year’s levels. Consequently, this trend will likely continue in the coming months.
Price Premiums and Market Outlook
At the same time, the price premium of sunflower oil relative to other vegetable oils has noticeably narrowed. Furthermore, this narrowing occurred in recent weeks. This gap is expected to continue to narrow. Additionally, increased exports from Argentina and Bulgaria will drive this trend.
The global vegetable oil market remains highly competitive. Meanwhile, sunflower oil faces pressure from palm oil and soybean oil alternatives. However, sunflower oil maintains its position in key markets like India. India continues to be a major destination for Argentine exports.
Supply Factors and Future Trends
The prospect of high global sunflower seed production this season adds to the supply-side pressure. Moreover, favorable growing conditions in major producing regions support higher output expectations. Consequently, processors have ample raw material for oil production.
Argentina’s crushing industry operates at strong capacity levels. Furthermore, the country benefits from established trade relationships with Asian buyers. The export infrastructure remains well-developed. Meanwhile, logistics costs stay competitive compared to other origins.
Bulgaria also contributes to the increased supply in global markets. Additionally, Black Sea region exports remain active. This competition among suppliers keeps prices under pressure. However, quality differences between origins maintain some price differentiation.
