Consulting company Stratégie Grains has raised its forecast for EU rapeseed production in MY 2025/26 from the previously announced 18.74 million tons to 19 million tons due to the expansion of planted areas and favorable weather conditions. In comparison, the updated figure is 13% higher than the result of the 2024/25 season.
In particular, the forecast for the rapeseed crop in the main producing countries, including Romania and Poland, has been raised.
“However, the situation will still be challenging. The tensions seen this season will continue into MY 2025/26. Although the EU rapeseed balance will be better in the new season, stocks are still considered too low for the situation to improve,” the report said.
At the same time, the experts lowered their estimate of sunflower seed production (reflecting the transition of some farmers to rapeseed cultivation) – to 10.4 million tons, which is still 25% higher than last year’s result. The EU soybean production forecast is revised to 3.2 million tons.
“Prices for sunflower and rapeseed seeds in the EU in MY 2024/25 have upside potential as their balances remain tight,” experts clarify.
Recall that last month rapeseed futures on Euronext reached an almost two-year high.
