According to the preliminary results of the first four months of the 2024/25 marketing year, Egypt and Turkey traditionally occupy the first places in wheat imports, reports the Association of Grain Exporters and Producers of the Russian Federation, citing data from Rusarotrans AG analysts.
“While the volume of Russian grain deliveries to Egypt increased in absolute terms by 65% to 4.304 million tons, exports to Turkey fell by 37% to 1.563 million tons,” the experts said.
Algeria takes third place in the ranking of importers, increasing its purchases by 17% to 1.485 million tons, with Bangladesh in fourth place with 1.203 million tons (1.3 million tons in the previous year). In fifth place is Kenya, which increased its imports of Russian wheat by 46% to 973,000 tons.
“Morocco and Nigeria entered the top 10 importers of Russian wheat: Morocco increased its imports by a multiple, from 115,000 tons to 557,000 tons (for the entire 2023/24 season 500,000 tons were imported), Nigeria by 3.1 times, from 158,000 tons to 651,000 tons (for the entire 2023/24 season 564,000 tons),” the Union added.
At the same time, Iran and Saudi Arabia reduced their purchases of Russian wheat in July-October to 590,000 tons and 534,000 tons respectively, down from 957,000 tons and 774,000 tons last year, amid an increase in their harvest and a projected decline in imports for the entire season.
