Growing export demand in the African and Middle Eastern grain markets in the 2025/26 season is leading to a redistribution of supplies. From July to March, Russian wheat shipments to Sudan reached 1.66 million tonnes. This increases the utilization of export infrastructure. It also supports overall export volumes. Russian wheat exports Sudan have thus become a key driver in the region.

Sudan becomes a top buyer of Russian wheat

According to the Rusagrotrans analytical center, Sudan has become the leader in terms of growth in Russian wheat imports. In the first half of the 2025/26 season (July to March), the country increased purchases almost threefold compared to the same period last season. Specifically, purchases reached 1.66 million tonnes. Consequently, Sudan became one of the top five importers.

Key markets are increasing purchases

Most major importers also demonstrated growth in Russian wheat shipments. For example, Turkey increased purchases by 2.6 times, to 5.8 million tonnes. Likewise, Iran raised imports by 2.5 times, to 1.86 million tonnes. Shipments to Israel increased 1.4-fold, reaching 1.67 million tons. In contrast, Egypt maintained its import volume at last year’s level of 7.6 million tons.

Russian wheat exports Sudan may exceed last year’s level

Russian wheat exports in the current agricultural year (July–March 2025/26) are expected to exceed last season’s figures for the first time. Analysts estimate that shipments could reach 37.7 million tons. This is up from 36.3 million tons a year earlier.
