Kazakhstan Grain Exports Iran Resume After Hiatus

Kazakhstan grain exports Iran have resumed after a nearly two-week hiatus. Specifically, the state-owned Food Corporation and the Ministry of Agriculture announced this development.

Transshipment Operations and Recent Volumes

According to the national grain operator, grain transshipment to Iran is carried out through its subsidiary, Ak Bidai Terminal, in Aktau. Furthermore, since the beginning of 2026, exporters have already shipped 31,000 tons of Kazakh grain to the Iranian market through the terminal.

The Food Corporation noted that it continues to monitor demand from Iranian partners. Moreover, it is ready to enter into new contracts if there is interest.

From September 1, 2025, to March 18, 2026, Kazakhstan exported 8.9 million tons of new-harvest grain.

Kazakhstan Grain Exports Iran: Regional Export Destinations

Uzbekistan remains the main export destination. Furthermore, exports there increased by 14 percent to 7.5 million tons. Additionally, shipments to Kyrgyzstan increased by 1.8 times to 354,000 tons. Moreover, exports to Afghanistan rose by 24 percent to 1.3 million tons. Meanwhile, shipments to Turkmenistan increased by 1.5 times to 145,000 tons.

Record Harvest and Export Potential

The Ministry of Agriculture previously reported that Kazakhstan harvested a record grain harvest in 2025 – 27.1 million tons. Furthermore, 20.3 million tons were wheat. Additionally, the country’s export potential for the current season is estimated at approximately 13 million tons.

Iran remains a traditional buyer of Kazakh grain, including wheat, barley, and corn. Moreover, by the end of 2025, Kazakhstan had supplied Iran with approximately 1 million tons of wheat.
