India oilseed meal exports January show a decline amid a sharp jump in prices, according to the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA). Moreover, the Indian feed meal market is experiencing significant pressure from these price increases.
India Oilseed Meal Exports January: Soybean Meal Collapse
As a result, soybean meal exports from the country fell by more than half in January 2026. Furthermore, while 286,000 tons of product shipped to foreign buyers in January last year, this figure fell to 132,000 tons in the first month of this year.
Despite the overall decline, Indian suppliers are maintaining their positions in key areas. Consequently, the main importers in January were the European Union countries, Nepal, and Kenya. At the same time, analysts particularly highlight the African vector: in recent years, Kenya has become an anchor market for Indian products. Additionally, in 2025, India covered about 80% of the country’s needs for this type of feed.
Rapeseed Meal Exports and Price Impact
Rapeseed meal exports in January fell to a multi-year low of only 65,000 tons. Meanwhile, this compares to 132,000 tons a year earlier.
The key reduction — more than double — was in supplies to China.
Market participants attribute the collapse to the depletion of old rapeseed stocks. Furthermore, a seasonal reduction in soybean processing volumes, according to experts’ forecasts, will continue to put pressure on shipment volumes in the coming weeks.
In January 2026, the average price of rapeseed meal in Indian ports reached $248 per ton. Consequently, this represents a significant jump compared to the $195–217 per ton range that held steady on the market from March to December 2025.
