According to Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Minister Anxious Masuka, the government is exploring viable export options. “We are engaging the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, ZimTrade, and other stakeholders,” Masuka stated. The collaboration aims to identify suitable markets for Zimbabwe’s wheat. The Zimbabwean government is thus proactive in managing its surplus.
Moreover, Masuka highlighted the success of the wheat production program. Zimbabwe’s 2023 wheat harvest reached a record 467,000 tonnes. This exceeds the national requirement of 360,000 tonnes. Consequently, a substantial surplus of over 100,000 tonnes exists. Production in 2022 was also strong, at 375,000 tonnes. Thus, the 2023 harvest represents a significant increase.
