Wheat production in Serbia will fall by 16 percent through 2024

Serbian wheat production will fall by 16% to 2.9 million tons in 2024, the country’s statistics office said, citing preliminary data from September 5.

The harvested area fell from 682,246 hectares in 2023 to 549,032 hectares in 2024, the statistics office said in a statement on Wednesday.

However, yields increased from 5.1 tons per hectare last year to 5.3 tons per hectare this year, the statement said.

Serbia will harvest 3.449 million tons of wheat in 2023, 11% more than in 2022, according to previously released statistics.

Corn production is expected to be 5.425 million tons this year, 18% less than last year, according to the statement released on Wednesday. Corn acreage is expected to rise from 922,980 hectares in 2023 to 961,268 hectares, while yields per hectare are expected to fall from 7.2 tons per hectare last year to 5.6 tons per hectare.

Compared to the ten-year average of forecasts for the period 2014-2023, wheat production will increase by 2.4% this year, while maize production will fall by 15%.

The final harvest data will be published in March 2025.
