Ukraine’s sunflower production is forecast to decrease by 4% to the level of 11.5 million tons in 2025, the executive director of the Seed Association of Ukraine, Suzanna Hryhorenko, has said. According to her, sunflower sown areas remain stable and occupy about 5 million hectares. However, a decrease in yields is expected due to unfavorable climatic conditions for crops.

“Export of marketable sunflower as a raw material will remain stable and will amount to about 300 thousand tons. At the same time, the bulk of the harvest will be directed to domestic processing for the production of oil and meal. The removal of some restrictions on the export of raw materials also opens up new opportunities for seed sales,” she notes.

Among the problems for agricultural companies growing sunflower, says Suzanna Grigorenko, is the dependence on the domestic market, because the lion’s share of production is sold to processing plants in the country. In addition, it is expected to increase the cost of logistics, which directly affects margins.

Earlier, the Minister of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine Taras Vysotsky reported that sown areas under soybeans next season will decrease, the reduction is initially estimated at 500 thousand hectares. Representatives of the industry also noted a 300,000-hectare shortfall in rapeseed due to excessive drought.
