Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Minister Vitaliy Koval met with Walid Gamalaldin, head of the state administration of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), which unites six ports, during his visit to Egypt. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
As noted, during the meeting V. Koval, on behalf of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, assessed the possibility of creating a food hub in Egypt. In particular, he inspected the port infrastructure and location where Ukrainian business can place its facilities – elevators, logistics centers, warehouses.
“SCZone is a key economic zone in Egypt, which offers favorable conditions for investors and industrial development. The task of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy is for Ukrainian agrarians not just to export raw materials, but to use special economic zones for their processing. Ukrainian products should enter African markets with added value. This will allow entering the domestic market of Egypt and exporting finished products – flour, pasta, other food products – to the countries with which Egypt has a free trade zone”, – said the Minister.
The report specifies that SCZone allows, in particular, to create production sites and industrial zones with tax and customs privileges; to use simplified mechanisms of registration and customs clearance, as well as to get access to a large market – more than 1.3 billion consumers in Africa and the Arab world.
“Ukraine is a strategic player in global food security, and cooperation with SCZone opens new perspectives for our agrarians and exporters. We are working to make Ukrainian products even more accessible in African markets,” Koval emphasized after the meeting.
