Last week, US farmers began harvesting the new corn crop, reports Grain On-Line, citing the US Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).
By September 8, 5% of the acreage had been harvested, more than at the same time last year (4%) and more than the average of the last five years (3%).
According to US Department of Agriculture forecasts, this season’s gross corn harvest is expected to reach 384.7 million tons, below last season’s record 389.7 million tons but above the five-year average.
The US Department of Agriculture estimates the corn export potential at 58.4 million tons (57.2 million tons last season).
