Breeders in Tajikistan have successfully developed a new wheat variety that produces two harvests annually. According to ASIA-Plus, this new wheat, named “Tobistona,” was the result of extensive breeding efforts at the Institute of Botany, Physiology, and Genetics of Plants affiliated with the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan.

The “Tobiston” wheat stands out for its early maturation and exceptional yields.

Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Kurbonali Partoev, noted, “We managed to achieve two harvests in a single growing season on the irrigated soils of the Hissar Valley, yielding up to 9 tons of grain per hectare.” Sowing takes place in both the fall (October and November) and the summer (July), with fall planting producing the most favorable outcomes.

Currently, the “Tobiston” wheat variety is undergoing the process of state certification.

It is worth mentioning that Tajikistan’s yearly wheat requirement exceeds 2 million tons, with domestic production meeting only about half of this demand.
