According to the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (CEPEA), sugar prices in São Paulo fell by about 4% in January 2025.

In January, the CEPEA/ESALQ white sugar price index (Icumsa 130-180) averaged 155.31 Brazilian reais per 50 kg bag ($535/t), almost 4% lower than the average for December.

On January 28, Brazil’s white sugar price index reached 149.63 Brazilian reais per bag ($509/t), the lowest value recorded since early October 2024.

Sugar prices declined in January despite lower sugar production in South Central Brazil in the first month of the 2024/25 off-season and strong demand for ethanol.
