SovEcon company has lowered immediately by 3 million tons, to 78.7 million tons, the forecast of wheat harvest in Russia in 2025, Interfax reports.
According to the think tank, if the forecast is realized, it will be the lowest wheat harvest since 2021. At that time, production amounted to 76 million tons. The average for the past five years is 88.2 million tons.
The company now estimates the winter wheat harvest at 50.7 million tons, which is 3.6 million tons lower than the previous forecast.
As analysts explain, the decrease in winter wheat production reflects a lower forecast of its yield – 34 centners/hectare against 35 centners/hectare in November, its area before harvesting is estimated at 14.9 million hectares against 15.4 million hectares due to expectations of higher losses of crops from frost.
At the same time, the forecast for spring wheat harvest was raised by 0.6 million tons to 27.9 million tons due to expectations of an increase in the sown area. The estimate of its area was raised to 13.3 million hectares from 13 million hectares. The total wheat planted area in 2025 will be 28.2 million hectares compared to 28.5 million hectares in 2024 and 29.8 million hectares in 2023.
The company also said its 2024 wheat harvest forecast has been raised by 0.5 million tons to 81.9 million tons.
