Russia’s oilseed cultivation continues its upward trend. Experts project a record-breaking expansion of the oilseed area in 2025. Specifically, analysts foresee the area reaching a substantial 18.5 million hectares. This expansion signifies the growing importance of oilseed production within Russian agriculture.
Russia oilseed area record 2025: Factors Driving the Oilseed Boom
Several factors contribute to this impressive growth. Primarily, favorable market conditions encourage farmers to dedicate more land to oilseed crops. For instance, consistently strong demand for sunflower oil and meal fuels this expansion. Additionally, rising global vegetable oil prices further incentivize increased production. Furthermore, government support programs also play a vital role. These programs provide crucial assistance to oilseed producers. Consequently, farmers can invest in improved technologies and expand their operations.
According to APK-Inform analysts, sunflower seed area will likely decrease slightly. It will decrease to 9.8 million hectares in 2025. However, soybean planting will increase significantly. It is expected to increase to 4 million hectares. Rapeseed area will also see an uptick, reaching 3.2 million hectares. Other oilseed crops, including flaxseed, will occupy about 1.5 million hectares.
Production Volume Projections
Consequently, total oilseed production is expected to reach a staggering 30.3 million tonnes in 2025. This projection represents a considerable increase compared to previous years. Specifically, sunflower seed production will likely reach 17.4 million tonnes. Moreover, soybean production will contribute approximately 6.7 million tonnes. Rapeseed production is also expected to be significant, reaching 5.3 million tonnes. Other oilseeds will account for the remaining 0.9 million tonnes.
Russia oilseed area record 2025 – experts highlight the increasing focus on processing capacity development. Indeed, Russia aims to maximize the value of its oilseed production domestically. As a result, investments in processing infrastructure are steadily increasing. Therefore, this development reduces reliance on exporting raw materials. This shift towards domestic processing enhances the overall profitability of the oilseed sector. Thus, the sector is poised for continued growth and success in the coming years. Therefore, Russia solidifies its position as a major player in the global oilseed market. Despite some changes in individual crop areas, the overall trend indicates a robust and expanding oilseed industry.
