Russian Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut explained that more than 32 million tons of grain have been harvested so far. The forecast for this year is 132 million tons. She noted that the harvest is progressing faster than last year due to the weather conditions. The main harvest is expected at the end of July, reports TASS.
According to Luth, climatic conditions were difficult this year: sowing took place under conditions of frost, drought, excessive moisture and locust infestation. These factors may have contributed to the lower rye volumes and the forecast could be adjusted as the harvest progresses.
In 2023, the second largest grain harvest in Russia’s history will be achieved with around 143 million tons, including the new regions with around 147 million tons.
