Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed discussing the creation of a grain and energy hub in Egypt. He made this announcement at a meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelathi in the Kremlin, according to the presidential press service.

The Kremlin press service also reported that the Russian President instructed the Russian government to explore the supply of food products, primarily grain, to Egypt.

“Following my telephone conversation with the Egyptian President, I instructed the government to work with our Egyptian colleagues on the supply of food products to Egypt, primarily our grain. Egypt is our partner, and in this regard, I would like to say that last year we had good results in agriculture, a good harvest, and we have no problems with supplies, nor will we have any,” Putin said at a meeting with the Egyptian Foreign Minister in the Kremlin on Thursday.

He added: “I believe that the Minister of Agriculture, the Deputy Prime Minister with whom I spoke, gave the order to do this. He should have already contacted his Egyptian counterpart, but I would ask you to inform the Egyptian President on this matter.”

The minister responded by noting that Cairo highly values these initiatives and that Egypt is very much looking forward to becoming such a hub.

As a reminder, the country is one of the largest buyers of Russian wheat. According to the federal center Agroexport, in the 2024/25 marketing year, Russian wheat accounted for 21% of all exports (9.4 million tons). This season, 6.5 million tons of wheat were shipped to Egypt. According to the Russian Grain Union, in March, compared to March 2025, exports increased 2.7-fold, reaching 1 million tons.
