China imported 17.9 million dollars worth of Russian wheat in August 2024, moving Russia from fifth to third place in the country’s top wheat supplier ranking after Canada and the US, Finmarket reports, citing data from the State Customs Administration (SCA) of the People’s Republic of China.
According to the data, China bought wheat from five countries in August, mainly from Canada (for 56.3 million dollars) and the USA (24.7 million dollars), as well as from Kazakhstan (12.2 million dollars) and Australia (10.5 million dollars).
Deliveries of Russian wheat to China for eight months were twice as high (8.9 million dollars) as in the same period last year.
Exports of Russian barley to China increased 3.8 times to 125.3 million dollars in the last eight months compared to the same period last year, while in August and July they were about the same at 12.9 and 12.4 million dollars.
At the same time, corn exports from Russia to China more than tripled in 8 months and amounted to 22.3 million dollars compared to 70.8 million dollars in January-August 2023. In August this year, it was 1.4 million dollars compared to 1.1 million dollars in July.
