In the 2025/2026 season, grain harvest is expected to grow from 124 million tons to 132.4 million tons, including wheat – from 82.4 million tons to 84.6 million tons, barley – from 16.7 million tons to 18.9 million tons, corn – from 12.4 million tons to 14.7 million tons. For barley and corn these are average annual levels for the last 5 years, said Igor Pavensky, head of the analytical center “Rusagrotrans” at the Mountain Grain Assembly, which is held by the company “ProZerno”.
The current winter is accompanied by low precipitation in the regions of the South, Center and West of the Volga region after a dry autumn. Precipitation is expected in the coming week, but then dry weather will resume. Severe frosts in the regions where there is no snow capable of destroying crops are not forecast yet. Winter crops have improved considerably due to abnormally warm weather in December and January, but risks of spring drought are increasing.
Wheat production in the 2024/25 season in the main producing countries is estimated at 625.6 million tons, which is 6.9 million tons (1.2%) higher than in the 2023/24 season, but lower than in the 2 previous seasons.
Against the backdrop of increased production, total wheat exports from 5 of the 8 major exporting countries in the 2024/25 season: Australia, Argentina, USA, Canada and Kazakhstan will increase by 12.4 million tons, but will fall sharply from Russia and the EU-27 by 22.8 million tons. Together, this will lead to a 10.4 million tons decrease in exports from the main exporting countries.
