The volume of deliveries of agricultural products from Kazakhstan to Pakistan almost doubled between January and August of this year and amounted to 7.7 million dollars. There is a particular demand for grain from Kazakhstan on the Pakistani market. In view of the expected high harvest this year, the Kazakh government has agreed to increase annual grain deliveries to Pakistan to up to 2 million tons. This was stated by Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov in Islamabad at the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
The total trade turnover between the two countries increased by 16% in the first eight months of this year and amounts to around 40 million dollars. In order to exploit the existing potential, the parties intend to further diversify trade turnover. Kazakhstan is ready to increase the volume of deliveries to the Pakistani market for 85 commodity items with a total value of more than 490 million dollars, including at the expense of food products.
In the field of transit traffic, there has been a threefold increase in the volume of rail freight traffic and a fourfold increase in transit traffic by road. In this context, the heads of government of Kazakhstan and Pakistan discussed the prospects for the further development of the existing multimodal route “Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan” and a new transport corridor “Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan”.
According to APK-Inform, citing official statistics, Kazakhstan exported around 15 thousand tons of grain and processed products to Pakistan in the 2023/24 marketing year. In the previous season, this figure was around 14 thousand tons, while in the season before that there were only isolated deliveries of insignificant quantities of these products.
