The Kazakh authorities have decided to extend the measures restricting the import of wheat into the country until the end of 2024 on all transportation routes. This was reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the government of the republic after the meeting of the inter-ministerial commission on foreign trade policy and participation in international economic organizations of Kazakhstan.
“The ban on the import of wheat to the territory of Kazakhstan by all means of transportation has been extended until the end of the year. There is still a risk that wheat will be imported into the country under gray schemes and re-exported by road from the border regions of the Russian Federation. The forecasts for the grain harvest in Kazakhstan are expected to be higher than last year”, – the statement reads.
Earlier in Kazakhstan from April 12, 2024 introduced a temporary ban on the import of wheat into the country, which was to operate for six months against the background of forecasts for a bumper grain harvest and data on the smuggling of 4-5 million tons of Russian wheat under the guise of Kazakh wheat.
Previously, the Kazakh government had considered the possibility of restricting the re-export of Russian wheat to Central Asia through the territory of the republic and a complete ban on Russian wheat supplies for six months from September 2024 to March 2025.
