Kazakhstan’s lentil industry is experiencing significant expansion. The country has achieved a remarkable feat by more than doubling its lentil exports. This substantial increase highlights Kazakhstan’s growing importance in the global lentil market. Moreover, these figures reflect positively on the nation’s agricultural sector.
Soaring Lentil Export Figures
Kazakhstan’s lentil exports reached an impressive 138,300 tonnes during the 2023 season. This represents a staggering 114% increase compared to the 64,700 tonnes exported in 2022. Correspondingly, this surge positions Kazakhstan as a key player in lentil supply. Therefore, this growth is a testament to increased production and improved export strategies.
In terms of monetary value, lentil exports generated $82.7 million. This is significantly higher than the $40.2 million earned in the previous year. This financial boost will undoubtedly benefit the Kazakh economy. Simultaneously, it will encourage further investment in the agricultural sector.

Key Destinations for Kazakhstan Lentil Exports
Turkey emerged as the primary destination for Kazakhstan’s lentil exports. A substantial 39,100 tonnes, valued at $23.5 million, were shipped to Turkey. Following closely behind was Iraq, receiving 37,000 tonnes worth $22.3 million. Furthermore, Italy imported 12,700 tonnes for $7.7 million. These three countries accounted for a significant portion of Kazakhstan’s total lentil exports. Besides these major importers, smaller quantities were exported to:
- Afghanistan: 11,200 tonnes ($6.7 million)
- Lithuania: 7,300 tonnes ($4.3 million)
- Poland: 6,900 tonnes ($4.1 million)
- Pakistan: 5,000 tonnes ($3.0 million)
- Belarus: 4,000 tonnes ($2.4 million)
- China: 3,000 tonnes ($1.8 million)
- Latvia: 2,800 tonnes ($1.7 million)

The expansion of Kazakhstan lentil exports can be attributed to several factors. Improved farming techniques are a key contributor. Besides this, government support for the agricultural sector has played a vital role. Investment in infrastructure has also enhanced export capabilities. In addition, favorable weather conditions in recent years have led to increased yields. Furthermore, growing global demand for lentils has created a strong market for Kazakh producers. As a result, the outlook for Kazakhstan’s lentil industry remains positive. Finally, Kazakhstan is positioned to further solidify its role in the global lentil market.
