According to a report by Business Standard, the Ministry of Agriculture in India anticipates a robust yield for rabi wheat (winter crops) this season, bolstered by an increase in the area planted and conducive weather conditions.
For the marketing year 2024/25, the area designated for the rabi grain crop is projected to reach 3.2 million hectares, up from 3.16 million hectares the previous year.
It is worth noting that earlier estimates by the ministry indicated that India had achieved a record wheat harvest in the last marketing year, 2023/24. Nonetheless, in a bid to safeguard food security and curb speculation, the Indian government has recently tightened regulations on wheat stockpiles, as increasing domestic prices for the grain raise concerns about the veracity of the claimed record outputs.
