An extremely hot summer with droughts, floods and typhoons is jeopardizing harvests in China. This is reported by the Bloomberg agency.

Temperatures in the country were above normal in June and the heat intensified in July. The disasters hit different parts of China, which could fuel food inflation as some of the wheat, soybean, rice and corn crops are destroyed. For example, large rice fields in the south of the country were flooded, while in the north, drought affected the wheat harvest and delayed the sowing of corn and soybeans.

As a result of climate change, China must expect more extreme weather events in the future, according to a warning from a local climate center. The Chinese Meteorological Administration has launched a new round of agricultural land zoning for the first time in 40 years to help the sector adapt to the harsh conditions.
