According to The North Africa Post, the Moroccan Ministry of Agriculture anticipates that this year’s total cereal crop yield will reach 4.4 million tons, marking a 41% increase compared to the previous year, primarily due to the rainfall in March and April. For seven years running, Morocco’s agriculture has suffered from drought conditions. Last year’s harvest was limited to only 3.1 million tons, significantly below the typical average of 7 million tons.
Although rainfall has grown by 19% this year, it remains 18% under the average level, indicating that the country still faces a moisture shortfall.
The Ministry projects that farmers will gather approximately 2.4 million tons of soft wheat, 1.06 million tons of durum wheat, and 0.9 million tons of barley in the current season.
Furthermore, agricultural production is expected to rise by 5.1% this year, following a 4.8% decline last year.
