The Association of Grain Exporters has named 13 countries to which Russian grain and grain products will be supplied without foreign intermediaries.
“According to the decision of the association’s board of directors, deliveries will be made directly to government agencies and state buyers in the following countries: Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Qatar, Kuwait, South Korea, Pakistan, India, Iraq,” said Eduard Zernin, Chairman of the Union’s Board, as reported by Interfax.
According to him, the Union turned to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation with a request to inform representatives of the Ministry abroad and officials of the countries where they are staying that at a joint meeting of the Union and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation on October 11, 2024, it was decided to exclude foreign intermediaries from the supply chain of Russian wheat and other grain products.
As Zernin explained, the Union’s member companies will not assume responsibility for fulfilling the obligations of foreign companies – the winners of tenders – if they have not concluded a long-term purchase agreement with Russian exporters. “This decision applies to all transactions concluded from October 11, 2024 and concerns the listed countries. Transactions concluded before this date will be processed in full,” emphasized the head of the union.
The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation supported the initiative of the Union of Grain Exporters to develop direct sales of export grain, bypassing traders and intermediaries from third countries. In particular, Russian exporters undertook not to supply Russian grain to foreign winners of tenders as part of backing deals, according to the principle “Russian grain should only be supplied to consumers by Russian exporters,” the association previously reported.
