Agreste, an agency under the French Ministry of Agriculture, expects the country’s sugar beet production to reach 34.18 million tons in 2024, an increase of 7.8% compared to 2023 and 5.7% above the five-year average.

“The beet harvest has only just begun: If yields are confirmed at the high five-year level, production could rise to 34.2 million tons,” Agreste said in its updated production report.

Sugar beet yields are estimated at 83.2 tons/hectare this year, which is almost the same as in 2023. The area under sugar beet in 2024 is estimated at 411,000 hectares, compared to 381,000 hectares in 2023.

In its preliminary estimate published in September, Agreste puts French sugar beet production at 34.38 million tons.
