Sunflower oil export prices from Ukraine fell

Ukrainian farmers are increasing sunflower sales due to good weather and completed planting. They didn’t achieve their target of 30,000 UAH/ton, industry sources report. Consequently, this adds pressure to the sunflower oil market. The market already suffers from oversupply and weak importer demand.

Export Prices for Ukrainian Sunflower oil Down?

Export prices for Ukrainian sunflower oil fell by $10/t over the week. The current price is 1110-1115$/t for Black Sea port delivery. Alternatively, prices are 1120-1150$/t on DAP terms to Germany and Macedonia. Moreover, competition from rapeseed and soybean oil in the EU complicates things. In addition, there’s a general drop in oil prices too.

OleoScope reports the price for Russian sunflower oil (FOB) on 22.05.2025 was 1120.00 $/t for May delivery. That’s 2.50 $/t lower than on 21.05.2025 (1122.50 $/t).

Falling Meal Prices Add to Concerns

Sunflower meal prices are also decreasing. They fell by $5/t in Black Sea ports to $215-220/t. Furthermore, May shipments to France cost $248-250/t. Low feed wheat and corn prices intensify this trend. Indeed, analysts predict this will affect sunflower purchase prices in June.

The cost of high oleic sunflower ranges from 26-26.7 thousand UAH/t without VAT (550-565 $/t). This price includes delivery to the plant. Local reports indicate processors hold significant stocks. These stocks should last until the rape processing season starts.

As of May 16, 3.9 million hectares of sunflower were sown in Ukraine, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy. That’s 77% of the planned area. Notably, expected rains should improve crop conditions. As a result, harvest forecasts may improve. Thus, this adds further pressure to the market.
