According to the European Commission, soft wheat exports from the European Union since the beginning of the 2024/25 marketing year until September 8 amounted to 4.82 million tons, a decrease of 23% compared to 6.25 million tons in the corresponding period of the previous season.
The main destinations of the grain were Nigeria with 654,340 tons, representing 13.6% of total exports from the bloc, compared to 573,650 tons in the previous year, Egypt with 565,680 (126,000) tons, Morocco with 448,510 (1,221,290) tons, Algeria with 413,110 (501,390) tons and the United Kingdom with 321,880 (103,260) tons.
Romania has been the leading exporter of common wheat in the EU since the start of the 2024/25 marketing year with 1.72 million tons, followed by Lithuania with 0.62 million tons, Bulgaria with 0.55 million tons and Germany and France with 0.5 million tons each. According to the European Commission, France’s export data has been incomplete since the beginning of the 2024 calendar year, while Bulgaria’s and Ireland’s export data has been incomplete since the beginning of the 2023/24 season.
