The European Commission reports that for the 2024/25 period, total oilseed imports into the EU are exceeding those of the previous year, whereas vegetable oil imports are currently trailing behind last year’s figures for the same timeframe.
By April 20, soybean imports across the 27 EU member states for 2024/25 (commencing July 1) reached approximately 11.22 million tons, marking a 9% increase compared to the corresponding period in 2023/24 and an 8% rise from the previous week.
Rapeseed imports into the Union on this date totaled around 5.41 million tons, showing a 14% increase year-on-year and a 16% growth over the last week.
It was also revealed earlier that since the start of the season, the EU has cut back its vegetable oil imports from Russia nearly fivefold. Specifically, imports of Russian rapeseed oil have amounted to merely 2 thousand tons, while sunflower oil imports stood at 1.67 thousand tons since the beginning of the current season.
