Egypt’s state food procurement agency Mostakbal Misr has purchased six batches of vegetable oil totaling more than 74,000 tons from Black Sea countries, including Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, and Romania, Reuters reports.

The agency also said it had agreed with international suppliers to purchase more than 600,000 tons of wheat, mainly from the Black Sea countries, as well as from France, with delivery in September and October.

However, the agency did not specify the exact delivery dates, nor did it disclose the suppliers or purchase prices.

Egypt is one of the world’s largest wheat importers. On average, it purchases more than 12 million tons of wheat abroad annually, including about 5 million tons through the public sector.

Earlier, it was reported that Egypt had increased its soybean imports from the US by a third since the beginning of the year, reducing supplies from Ukraine and Brazil.

According to OleoScope, Russia supplied 74,000 tons of sunflower oil and 6,500 tons of sunflower meal to the Egyptian market from January to July. Soybean supplies were insignificant, as in the previous year, but flaxseed exports increased significantly, from 3.9 to more than 6 thousand tons. As in the previous year, there were no imports of soybean meal.
