Cargill, ALDC consortium (consisting of Louis Dreyfus Co. and Amaggi), as well as investment bank BTG Pactual Commodities have received the right to manage for 35 years three sites in the Brazilian port of Paranagua, Feedlot reports.

As it is specified, the auctioned areas in the second largest port in Brazil are located terminals specializing in the transshipment of grains and oilseeds, in particular soybeans, soybean meal and corn.

Bids for PAR zones 14, 15 and 25 on the São Paulo exchange totaled R$855 million ($150.64 million). The winners of the auction also commit to invest R$2.2 billion ($387.62 million) to modernize the facilities. The highest bid at the auction was offered by Cargill for the PAR15 site at R$411 million ($72.41 million). A record number of bidders – six companies – participated in the struggle for this site.

The ALDC consortium won the right to manage PAR25 with a bid of R$219 million ($38.58 million) among five bidders. The PAR14 site, which includes a silo and green area, went to Brazil’s BTG Pactual Commodities, which beat out four other bidders with a bid of R$225 million ($39.64 million).

The Brazilian Ministry of Ports and Airports explained that the high level of competition was due to the fact that these sites are key for agricultural exports from the Port of Paranagua.
