According to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the country exported 1.09 million tons of barley in January. In particular, shipments of feed barley amounted to 505.55 thousand tons, up from 496.34 thousand tons in December, while malting exports amounted to 589.06 thousand tons, more than three times higher than in December (179.28 thousand tons).
The main market for Australian feed barley in the month was China – 293.88 thousand tons, and shipments were also actively made to Thailand – 100.61 thousand tons, and Saudi Arabia – 64.93 thousand tons. The largest markets for malting barley from Australia were China (411.12 thousand tons), Mexico (96 thousand tons), Vietnam (35.34 thousand tons), and South Africa (30 thousand tons).
It is expected that in February and March Australia shipped at least 1 million tons of barley, while in April and May exports of the grain should decrease amid a reduction in its stocks.
