The Brazilian consulting agency AgRural has revised its projection for the nation’s soybean production in the marketing year 2024/25, citing deteriorating crop conditions in the regions of Parana, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Rio Grande do Sul, where moisture shortages continue, as reported by Grain Online.

In the updated estimate, Brazil is expected to produce 168.2 million tons of soybeans this season, a decrease from the 171 million tons predicted in January.

By February 20, AgRural reports that 39% of the soybean crop had been harvested, reflecting an increase of 16 percentage points from the previous week and remaining comparable to last year’s figures (40%).

AgRural noted in its report, “The soybean harvest in central-western Brazil experienced significant advancement due to elevated temperatures, less frequent rainfall, and the critical timing required for corn planting.”

A delay in harvesting soybeans typically impacts the sowing of Brazil’s second corn crop, which is cultivated in the same fields.

As of February 20, AgRural announced that the planting of the second-crop corn in Brazil had reached 64% of the intended area, marking a notable increase from the prior week (36%) but a decline from last year’s 73%.
