The tenge is the official currency of Kazakhstan. It is called the Kazakh tenge (Казахстанский тенге in Russian, Қазақстан теңгесі in Kazakh). The word “tenge” is derived from the Mongolian word “teŋge”, which means “balance” or “equal”. The KZT was introduced on November 15, 1993. (You can find the current exchange rate here.)
