Kazakhstan rapeseed exports to Russia have surged dramatically this marketing year, making Russia the single largest buyer of this key Kazakhstani oilseed crop. According to data from the Republic’s Bureau of National Statistics, cited by the APK News agency, total rapeseed shipments from Kazakhstan have grown 1.8-fold since the start of the season. Furthermore, China’s purchases have risen an extraordinary 80-fold, signalling a major shift in the global demand structure for Kazakhstani rapeseed.
Kazakhstan Rapeseed Exports Russia: Russia Takes the Lead
Since the start of the season, Kazakhstan rapeseed exports to Russia have grown sharply. As a result, Russia has emerged as the crop’s primary buyer. Specifically, Russia acquired 35% of the total export volume. Moreover, over the first seven months of the 2025/26 marketing year (MY), Kazakhstan’s total rapeseed exports reached 173,000 tons. This figure is nearly 40% higher than the total export volume for the entire previous season.
Key Buyers: Growth and Decline Across Destinations
Compared to the same period in previous years, exports saw significant growth to several destinations:
- Russia — 60,600 tons; shipments increased 2.24-fold
- China — 32,600 tons; an 81.5-fold increase
- Poland — 19,700 tons; up 11%
Furthermore, exports of rapeseed were also recorded to countries that received no shipments during the first half of the previous marketing year:
- Denmark — 2,000 tons
- Afghanistan — 1,700 tons
- Iran — 2,700 tons
Conversely, compared to the same period of the previous marketing year, rapeseed shipments to certain EU countries declined:
- Estonia — 5,300 tons (down 17%)
- Latvia — 19,300 tons (down 43.5%)
- France — dropped to zero, down from 5,000 tons in the previous MY
Season Outlook: Second-Best Result in Eight Years
As experts note, rapeseed exports during the first half of the current season marked the second-highest result recorded in eight years. Additionally, the previous export forecast for this Kazakhstani oilseed crop in the current marketing year remains unchanged at 210,000 tons. Therefore, over the first seven months of the 2025/26 MY, actual exports already reached 82.5% of the projected annual export potential. Consequently, Kazakhstan is well on track to meet or approach its full-year export target for canola and rapeseed.
