US alternative fertilizer suppliers are now a priority for the administration. Specifically, this action is necessary to prevent shortages ahead of the planting season. Moreover, supply disruptions from the Persian Gulf region drive this urgency, noted Kevin Hassett, head of the White House National Economic Council.

US Alternative Fertilizer Suppliers: Emergency Measures Underway

The US administration is taking emergency measures to find new sources of fertilizer. Furthermore, these actions aim to prevent shortages ahead of the planting season. Additionally, supply disruptions from the Persian Gulf region complicate the situation. Kevin Hassett, head of the White House National Economic Council, stated this in an interview with CNBC.

“We’re almost into the planting season, which typically involves a lot of fertilizer application, including those based on ammonia, urea, and nitrogen. We’re very successful in finding other sources to hedge against disruptions. I’m not saying we can completely eliminate disruptions, but we can certainly minimize them,” Hassett said.

Diversification Strategy and Key Partnerships

The head of the economic council explained that producers create a significant portion of this production using liquefied natural gas. Furthermore, the Qatari plant supplies approximately 20% of the US’s needs. In response, the Donald Trump administration has already issued licenses to Venezuela to increase production volumes. Additionally, officials held talks with Morocco, which holds the world’s largest potash reserves. Moreover, Hassett asserts that Washington has the issue fully under control. Consequently, the administration is successfully finding alternative supply options.
