France winter crops condition has deteriorated significantly over the past week. Moreover, heavy rains that fell across most of the country in recent days caused this decline, according to estimates by the FranceAgriMer agricultural agency.

France Winter Crops Condition: Wheat and Barley Assessments

Specifically, as of February 16, 88% of French soft wheat crops were in good or excellent condition. Furthermore, this is down from 91% the previous week but better than the figure for the same date last year (74%).

As for winter barley, 84% of crops are rated as good or excellent. Meanwhile, this compares to 88% a week earlier and 69% in 2025.

Durum Wheat and Planting Delays

It is also noted that 83% of durum wheat crops were in good or very good condition as of February 16. Consequently, this is less than 87% a week earlier and corresponds to last year’s figure.

In addition, experts noted that rains have virtually halted the spring crop planting campaign in most regions of France.
