The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, reported that by April 13, American farmers had planted soybeans on 2% of the intended acreage – matching the five-year average for this time. In comparison, 3% of the area was planted with soybeans at the same point last year, according to Grain Online.
Regarding other crops, the pace of spring wheat planting was in line with the average for the last five years, with 7% sown by April 13, up from 6% a year prior. Conversely, corn planting lagged behind, with only 4% of the targeted area sown, compared to 6% last year and a five-year average of 5%.
Meanwhile, winter wheat rated as excellent or good had dropped to 47% by mid-April, 1% lower than the previous week and 8% less than the level reported at the same time last year.
