According to APK-Inform, citing data from Oil World (Germany), the total processing volume of major oilseeds in EU countries fell to 8 million tons in January-February 2025, down by 0.7 million tons compared to the same period last year – the lowest figure in the past three years.
The sharpest declines were observed in the processing of soybeans and sunflowers, which both dropped by 20% year-on-year to 2.62 million tons and 1.30 million tons, respectively. These reductions were particularly notable in France, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, and Hungary.
Processing of rapeseed experienced a more moderate decrease, reaching 4.07 million tons compared to 4.43 million tons the year before.
Experts attribute these changes to weakening demand for raw materials and prevailing market volatility.
Previously, it was reported that by the end of last year, Ukraine had increased its exports of vegetable oils and oilseeds to the EU, with Ukrainian sunflower oil ranking among the EU’s top agro-imports.
