Statistics Canada reports that Canada’s wheat and canola exports accelerated during the 34th week of the 2024/25 fiscal year. So far, cumulative exports for the 2024/25 fiscal year have reached 6.866 million tons, marking an increase of 70.3% over last year and 75.2% above the 2022/2023 period.

In Canada, the grain and oilseed marketing year—including wheat, durum wheat, barley, and canola—runs annually from August 1 to July 31 of the following year.

The Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the USDA forecasts canola output for the 2025/26 season to hit 18.46 million tons, rising from the 17.84 million tons predicted for the current season.

Although acreage dedicated to canola is expected to be lower than the previous year, the Canadian type of canola continues to lead the growth in national oilseed production, thanks to improved soil moisture in Saskatchewan and Alberta and higher anticipated yields relative to the 2024/25 season. However, canola seed exports are forecast to fall to 6.5 million tons in 2025/26, as more of the crop is processed domestically.
