U.S. corn exports to the EU hit a record high

Data from the USDA indicates that since the onset of the 2024/25 season, the United States has shipped 2.7 million tons of corn to the European Union, marking a historic peak that is 87% higher than the figures from the same timeframe in the previous marketing year.

In the 2024/25 marketing year, the EU ranks as the fourth largest importer of American corn, accounting for 9% of total exports, following Mexico, Japan, and Colombia. Notably, the EU’s share had remained below 1% over the last decade.

S&P Global Commodity Insights remarked that the EU’s record imports of U.S. corn were driven by the lower production levels in Ukraine for the 2024/25 marketing year, which made American corn more competitive, alongside favorable currency fluctuations that provided an edge over Brazilian corn.

Concurrently, U.S. exporters are grappling with uncertainty regarding future shipments, attributed to ongoing tariff disputes between the United States and the European Union.
