Kazakhstan will harvest a record pea crop in 2024

In 2024, the harvest of peas in Kazakhstan reached 168 thousand tons, which is a record for at least the last three seasons. Gross harvest of this legume was 9% higher than in 2023 (154 thousand tons) and 12% more than in 2022 (150 thousand tons), APK-Inform reports citing official statistics.

Harvested area of peas in 2024 was lower than in 2023 (126.7 thousand hectares vs. 145 thousand hectares). In 2022, Kazakhstan harvested this crop from 117 thousand hectares.

Thus, the increase in gross pea yield was due to an increase in yield – from 12.8 c/ha in 2022 and 10.7 c/ha in 2023 to 13.3 c/ha in 2024.

The undisputed leader in pea production in Kazakhstan in 2024 remained North Kazakhstan region, where from 76.2 thousand hectares harvested 110 thousand tons of legume with an average yield of 14.4 c/ha. Gross pea harvest in Kostanay region amounted to 27.7 thousand tons (yield – 9.4 c/ha), in Akmola region – 16 thousand tons with an average yield of 13 c/ha.
