The Russian government will consider the possibility of restricting food exports if the situation does not favor the stability of the domestic market. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Patrushev. The main task of the industry is to fully provide the market with all kinds of products at affordable prices, he noted.
“Otherwise, dear colleagues, we will have to intervene. <…> And if the situation does not favor the stability of our own market, we have leverage. These include export restrictions. I don’t want to talk about it, but, you must agree, it will be unpleasant for everyone to lose overnight the markets that we have been hard-won for so many years,” Patrushev said.
Patrushev noted that in 2024 the government has already taken measures to regulate the market of dairy products. In particular, until June 15, 2025, Russia has a tariff concession for imports of up to 25 thousand tons of butter. Control over ensuring the economic availability of basic foodstuffs will continue, as the priority of the state is to provide citizens with all types of products, while the emphasis is placed on domestic producers, said Deputy Prime Minister.
For regulatory purposes, Russia also has rates of export customs duties. Thus, the duty on sunflower oil exports for January 2025, as we recall, amounted to 16,067 rubles (9,195 rubles earlier), having increased 1.7 times. The rate on meal for the current month is 4,771 rubles, up from 3,788 rubles earlier.
