Turkey has allocated tariff quotas for imports of sunflower seeds and sunflower oil for the period from January 1 to April 30, 2025. The quotas allow importing 1 million tons of sunflower seeds and 400 thousand tons of sunflower oil.
Sunflower seed imports within the quota will be taxed at 0%, while sunflower oil imports will be taxed at 20%.
The policy is aimed at balancing domestic supplies while supporting local producers during the period. As a reminder, this year, according to a report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS USDA) Turkey is expected to have the lowest sunflower harvest in a decade. FAS lowered its oilseed production forecast by 300,000 tons compared to its previous forecast to 1.25 million tons.
Earlier it was reported that duties on imports of goods over the quota will be 12% and 20%, respectively.
