The year 2024 became a record year for the sugar industry of Ukraine – domestic producers set a historical record for sugar exports, sending 746.3 thousand tons of the said product to foreign markets for a total of $419 million. This is the highest export figure within a calendar year according to the statistics, which dates back to 1997, when the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine was established, Ukrtsukor reports.
“40% of exports in 2024 were directed to the countries of the European Union, 60% amounted to exports to other countries of the world”, – stated in the message.
As it is specified, in the world market the main countries-buyers of Ukrainian sugar in 2024 were the countries of the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa). Thus, supplies to Turkey amounted to 16% of the total volume of shipments, to Libya – 12%, to Cameroon – 8%, to Somalia – 6%. Also, a significant volume of Ukrainian sugar was shipped to Northern Macedonia (7% of the total volume).
