Exports of grain and oilseeds from Ukraine slowed down significantly in the first half of December, Ukrainian industry publications said. The total volume of shipments as of December 15 amounted to 1.8 million tons, which is 32% less than the previous month.

During this period, Ukraine exported just over 200,000 tons of wheat, 880,000 tons of corn and only 190,000 tons of sunflower oil. By comparison, 547,000 tons. of wheat, 1.26 million tons. of corn and 237,000 tons. of sunflower oil were shipped during November 1-14.

In contrast, sunflower meal exports gained momentum – 202 thousand tons were shipped by mid-December versus 157 thousand tons in November. The main destinations were China – 66 thousand tons, France – 53 thousand tons, Egypt and Poland (19 thousand tons each).

The decrease may be due to the recently introduced export regulation rules. As a reminder, the Ukrainian government introduced the export security regime, which concerns 14 types of agricultural products, including soybeans, rapeseed and sunflower seeds, soybean, sunflower and rapeseed oils and meal, by its resolution of October 29. The mechanism provides, among other things, for the establishment of minimum export prices for goods.
